About BCF

The nonprofit Brighter Choice Foundation provides start-up grants, school facilities, a revolving loan fund, and technical assistance to eight public charter schools in the City of Albany, New York’s state capital.

The public charter schools established in Albany by the Brighter Choice Foundation are based upon some of the top urban schools in the United States, with a focus on replicating best practices and proven school models.

The Brighter Choice Foundation’s flagship schools, the Brighter Choice Charter School for Girls and the Brighter Choice Charter School for Boys, are the #1 ranked public schools in Albany.

The public charter schools assisted by the Brighter Choice Foundation each offer: small-school settings, longer school days and school years, high academic and behavioral expectations, extensive use of data to inform instruction, and school uniforms.

Additionally, the Brighter Choice Foundation:

• Has established and supports educational scholarship programs for economically disadvantaged youth.
• Commissions and conducts research on the effectiveness of different educational approaches.
• Supports educational scholarship efforts, with a focus on programs that serve economically disadvantaged students.
• Sponsors events on educationally relevant and culturally rich topics for members of the local community.
